San Cristobal

The capital of Galapagos is the second most populated island of the archipelago with around 5500 inhabitants. The port Baquerizo Moreno, is home to an important colony of sea lions that, together with its places to surf and its amazing sunsets, make this island one of the best places to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

On this island, our collaborators and instructors of LAVAWAVE, have the experience to guide you through all the activities we have prepared for you.

ITINERARY | 07 - 12 July 2019

This is your first day on the islands. A naturalist guide is waiting at the airport to drive to your hotel, and once installed, we will have lunch at a local restaurant.

Your activities begin with a short walk along the beach towards the Interpretation Center, where you will learn about the history of the island. Following the path to Cerro Tijeretas, the guide will explain about the vegetation of the place, the animals that live nearby and, with luck, will point out some of the birds that give the place its name. During the tour make sure to dive into the natural pool of Darwin Bay to discover the marine fauna. After continuing your adventure to the beach of Punta Carola, where the iconic San Cristobal lighthouse is located on a stretch of black volcanic rocks.

At the end of the afternoon and back at the hotel, you will relax with the first yoga class and finally you will end up with a delicious local dinner.

The day will begin with a session of yoga and meditation in the morning at your hotel, followed by a breakfast and a surf lesson, this class will be planned to familiarize you with this sport, we will review the basics of surfing. You will learn about the equipment (board, strap, fins, wax, etc.), the placement on the board, paddle technique, how to navigate the board in the water, how to avoid a wave and what to do in case of emergency.

This class takes place on a beach with small waves so you can practice the techniques safely.

Immediately after finishing the surf lesson, we will take you to one of the most beautiful places in San Cristobal, a very special lunch awaits you here and, between the colorful nature of San Cristobal and the spectacular views, you will have time to walk and take photos next to fruit trees and bamboo. After lunch, you will visit the Tortoise Breeding Center of the National Park and then the lagoon of El Junco, our largest freshwater reserve. The afternoon will be spent back in the town.

After breakfast you will start an all around trip of San Cristobal’s coastline. It is a boat ride along the entire coast of San Cristobal, and during this trip you will discover truly hidden places of this magical island, and you will have the opportunity to snorkel with the marine fauna. You will pass through a cascade of fresh water that ends in the ocean, Bahia Sardina, where you will hopefully see sea turtle nests. Then we will visit Rosa Blanca Bay, a beautiful white sand beach that has a charming mangrove swamp. We will cross Punta Pitt, where we will stop to fish if conditions allow it, and we will also go to the majestic Kicker Rock, where we will also swim with iconic marine animals from the islands.

Upon arrival back in town, you will have time to rest, and we will end the day with a relaxing deep rest yoga class or evening meditation.

The fourth day begins with a session of yoga and meditation in the morning, followed by a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, you will continue with the experiences in the water with a kayak tour of Wreck Bay, first towards Playa Mann around 8:00 am, on this journey we will paddle along the coastline hoping to find some blue footed boobies and seabirds, making our way down to Darwin’s Bay, where there will be time to snorkel with sea lions, sea turtles, parrotfish and other species.

Upon our return (based on the paddling strength of the group) we will make a little tour around the bay where artisan fisherman’s boats are docked, here we can observe closely the lifestyle of the locals and the amazing interactions between animals and humans.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in town, and you will have the rest of the afternoon free to explore the city and the nearby beaches on your own.

After breakfast, we will take you to Española, a nearby island. The boat trip is about 2 hours, and the first stop will be at Punta Suárez once we arrive on the island. Here we will disembark and begin a light walk of 2 hours around the island. You will be able to observe some of the most emblematic species of the Galapagos, perhaps some albatrosses, blue-footed boobies and colored iguanas. Later you will return to the boat which will take you to Islote Gardner, where you can snorkel, hopefully next to sea lions, maybe some Galapagos sharks, lots of colorful fish and marine iguanas. There will be a box lunch served on board around 14h00. After lunch the journey back to Puerto Baquerizo will begin, and you will arrive around 16:30-17:00.

Back in town we will meet for dinner at a local restaurant, and the evening is free.

This is the last day of your trip, and you will begin the morning with an energizing yoga session and morning meditation. Breakfast will be served at the hotel.

After breakfast we will take you to the airport.
